A decent thriller drama. Kent crafts the true-life story quite effectively. After a brief buildup, the disappearance quickly follows, and from that moment on, the film manages to hold the viewer's attention. Despite feeling like a B-movie at times, the film manages to keep you captivated until the very end. The pace is good, and the tension and drama alternate effectively. The film is never dull. Beckinsale's performance is not bad, but he's a bit too light to elevate the film. A pleasant surprise. 3.5

Based on a true story, this tale chronicles Maureen's [Kate Beckinsale] years-long struggle to find her daughter, who was taken to Syria by her ex-husband [Arvin Kananian]. After a high-profile but unsuccessful hunger strike, Maureen connects with Robeson [Scott Eastwood] and Carl [Jordan Duvigneau], who are clandestinely returning American children abducted abroad to their homeland on behalf of the CIA. Lacking the money to hire them, Maureen makes a dubious deal. A potentially compelling story is marred by the melodramatic tone and Kent's "tough as nails" approach, forcing Beckinsale into questionable emotional outbursts in this very mediocre B-movie thriller.
