Turbulence plot
"Fear takes flight."
Young married couple Zach and Emmy decide to take a hot air balloon ride over the Swiss Alps to rekindle their relationship. When they are joined by a third passenger, Julia, events unfold that they could never have imagined five thousand meters in the air. What should have been the trip of a lifetime ends in disaster when the passengers' dark secrets are revealed and nature's wrath is unleashed.

Just barely passable. The poster is undoubtedly the best part of the film. Since the mere thought of a hot air balloon ride makes me shudder, this seemed like an ideal thriller experience on paper. The film occasionally manages to generate suspense, but the execution falls short of that potential. Moreover, the ending is unsatisfying, leaving a feeling of missed opportunities.
As so often happens, the man is the villain, the woman the hero of the story and the only survivor. As a Frasier fan, it's also unintentionally funny to see Kelsey Grammer fall out of a hot air balloon.

Zach [Jeremy Irvine] and Emmy [Hera Hilmar] want to revive their marriage with an adventurous hot air balloon ride. They're unexpectedly joined at the last minute by Julia [Olga Kurylenko], with whom Zach had an affair the night before. Kelsey Grammar is the pilot responsible for ensuring safety, but she obviously fails. Logic isn't a priority in this wacky yet entertaining thriller, definitely not recommended for those with a fear of heights.

It's not super realistic, no, but it is enjoyable entertainment for a drizzly evening. It also helps that I have a fear of heights, so I could relate. The story itself isn't surprising, of course, but that's part of the genre. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.
