Music school teacher Emma Blum carries a painful secret that even her boyfriend Nick Sommerfeld doesn't know. He senses that she is hiding something from him, but doesn't know what. As a young woman, Emma gave birth to a child that she gave up for adoption and has been plagued by a terrible sense of guilt ever since. Because she chose an anonymous adoption at the time, the adoption agency can't help her track him down. One day, she watches a video clip of the young pianist Noah Paulsen and thinks she recognizes her son. Together with café owner Linda, she goes looking for him.
