Dusty [Josh O'Connor] has lost his ranch due to a natural disaster. He finds temporary shelter in a FEMA camp where he meets fellow survivors and tries to reconnect with his ex-wife [Meghann Fahy] and his daughter [Lily LaTore], who looks up to him. This atmospheric drama, full of beautiful imagery of the desolate Colorado landscape, bears a strong resemblance to Nomadland. It is a striking portrait of people who persevere despite adversity, featuring a good performance by O'Connor, who receives excellent support from LaTorre (Run Rabbit Run).

Just imagine that happening to you: a fire where not only your house and all your belongings go up in flames, but also your land, to such an extent that it is practically unusable for the next ten years.

It should come as no surprise that this does not result in a cheerful film. What does come as a surprise, however, is the extremely glacial pace, where the rather mediocre ending feels like a redemption. Surely, a bit more should have happened.
