The concept behind Black Eyed Susan is well thought out and Damian Maffei's lead is strong, but director Scooter McCrae nonetheless turns it into a bleak, uninteresting affair. It takes forever for the first shocking, suspenseful, or atmospheric shots to appear, and even those are hardly memorable. Only the finale picks up reasonably well; everything leading up to it is more familiar and less interesting territory. Moreover, Yvonne Emilie Thalker is an overly simplistic robot and pales completely in comparison to Maffei's much more professional demeanor. When the setting doesn't exactly look well thought out either, Black Eyed Susan certainly doesn't satisfy you as a horror fan. Pun intended.
