"He hears you too"
When a friend of Dilara's is murdered, she returns to her native village. She gets the feeling that the infamous village idiot Jimmy wants revenge on the group of friends. A true crime podcast with Jimmy's voice appears: the longer you listen, the more likely he is to come after you. After another murder during a rave, Dilara knows for sure: she is the next target.

Bronsgeest took a look at the visual style of Dario Argento and Michael Mann and apparently (and completely wrongly) thought that he could quickly cobble together a memorable horror film. Too bad he chose a confusing and ultimately downright ridiculous story and that he didn't realize that Tim Koomen's lousy script saddled him with unsympathetic, sometimes downright repulsive characters. Only the scene at the dishwasher comes close to the black comedy tone with which Bronsgeest could have saved this monstrosity. Unfortunately, he takes the tasteless story far too seriously and Thijs Boermans and Isa Hoes in particular do their best to act as badly as possible. Jimmy [Rick Paul van Mulligen] is a young man with a mental disability who is wrongly imprisoned for murder and takes revenge via a true crime podcast. If you think that's stupid, wait until you've seen the film!

Director David-Jan Bronsgeest inspires Dutch confidence with a unique visual approach, showing that national cinema can be nicely made up. Unfortunately, this is not reflected in Jimmy due to the particularly messy story and the inhumanly bad acting. Tim Koomen's script is loosely connected and mixes up a few random scenes, among which a haunted podcast is apparently responsible for all the misery. Incidentally, the short film on which Jimmy is based comes across much better in terms of building up tension. Bronsgeest makes an attempt to imitate this during the opening, but in doing so immediately sets the tone for this particularly rushed and chaotic project. Fortunately, everything looks well thought out in terms of layout and the colours splash off the screen. Rick Paul van Mulligen is an intimidating threat and as the finale progresses, a form of tension even comes into play, but this does not take away the negative points. Isa Hoes also makes a bid for the prize of worst Dutch acting performance ever.

Time for a Dutch horror film I thought. But this one was very disappointing. Visually it all looks fine, but the story is a total chaos. The whole thing looks messy and it seems like the director doesn't know which way he wants to go. Little tension and not scary at all.
Rick Paul van Mulligen plays well as far as that is possible in this setting. The rest is again of the well-known dramatic acting level that we are used to from the Netherlands.
Missed attempt.
