Groenkijkers plot

'A love for nature starts with looking carefully,' says Jacques Rovers, father of director Sanne Rovers and a protector of wild plants for more than 35 years. In this documentary we follow conservationists like her father, who, against the background of climate change, nitrogen crisis and decline in biodiversity, each try to protect their piece of nature in their own way.

As a child, Sanne Rovers was annoyed by the fact that her father Jacques constantly stopped during nature walks to look at a plant, a bush or a blade of grass. She now understands that it is an expression of love and fascination for nature. In this documentary she filmed her father and several other people who also put their love for nature into action. For example, by protecting tiny birds on a beach, counting the number of different insects or by warning farmers about breeding grounds in their pasture, or by selling “ugly” plants that contribute to greater biodiversity (including for bees) in urban areas . Drops in the ocean of people who love greenery, but confirm what we (should) have known for years: that nature is getting worse and worse. A respectful and nuanced portrait of passionate nature lovers.
