Nicola Peltz.

I think she doesn't do a bad job with this first film as writer and director, and the lead role as well. Still, she doesn't get much praise, with the most common complaint being that she is a fake baby. But then I think, if we're going to use that yardstick, three-quarters of Hollywood might as well stay home. Or maybe even 99%.

Along the same lines, it is rather weak to dismiss the film as 'poverty porn' as The Guardian does. It undoubtedly tells a story that plays out all too often in the US, and that does not change by calling it that—nor does it become any less real due to the observation that Peltz himself has never, even remotely, experienced anything like that.

But aside from that, anyone who lets themselves be influenced by this misses Madsen's fine not-so-fine role, and perhaps even the prediction that Lola might resemble her more than she can imagine. It is a pity that the somewhat too predictable ending takes just a little too long to arrive.
