Serbia, the year 1910. Milena Strasek lives with her twelve-year-old son Stefan in a small village since their father abandoned their family shortly after his birth. Years of uncertainty about the man's whereabouts have taken their toll: Milena falls seriously ill and dies, leaving her son alone in the empty house. The next night the father appears. He comes to get his son.
