Nice bite, swallow, gone documentary about the band Wham! It explains the necessary and gives a good insight into the relationship between George and Andrew. It just keeps bubbling on the surface a bit. It never really goes deep and the career of Wham! doesn't have enough bacon on its bones to really tell something legendary. The two grew up together, started a band together and it soon became clear to both after a number of (mega) hits that George Michael would continue on his own. Then as a documentary you soon won't have much to say. There is too little interesting or controversy in this band to deliver an impressive documentary.

This clearly calls for a part 2, where it is only about George's life after Wham! should go. That's actually where it starts to get a little more interesting with all the things that went on around his life in the 90s.

Using audio recordings of in-depth interviews with George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley, Chris Smith recreates the history of this pop band that became a phenomenon in its four-year existence with songs such as 'Club Tropicana', 'Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go' and the inevitable 'Last Christmas'. George Michael was the musical mastermind and would continue his career as a solo artist, but this documentary makes it clear that the extremely shy Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou would very likely never have dreamed of a music career without Andrew Ridgeley's enthusiasm, self-confidence and above all unbreakable friendship. Of course, covers George's struggles with his sexuality and why Wham! stopped at the climax, but who Wham! and George Michael has consciously experienced, one should not count on new insights. The use of demos and alternate mixes of what would later become classics was what I found most interesting.

I thought their music was just as bad as the documentary. I would have liked to know more about the later period of Georgios Panagiotou and Ritgeley, certainly as fascinating as the period of Wham...
