Bird Box: Barcelona plot

"Fear the ones who see."

The world's population has been halved by a mysterious force that causes suicide in all who see it. Sebastian and his daughter Anna venture into the deserted streets of Barcelona and try to survive. Together with other survivors, whom they do not fully trust, they aim their arrows at a safe shelter. It soon becomes apparent that the threat does not only come from the invisible forces.

This is pulp that takes itself way too seriously (film total) I can only agree wholeheartedly with this, but Spanish and on Netflix is usually a monstrosity guarantee by the way. The first Bird Box was already a drama, but this isn't much better. Don't look and do something else I would say....

Frankly, I like this better than the first Bird Box, because it doesn't pretend to be something of a deep movie, but just goes full for the action. At least, the film opens strongly in that empty shed, but after that it goes downhill a bit with many boring interludes and a lot of lame bullshit. And also nice that that nervous Bullock doesn't participate, especially that.

Barcelona sometimes looks pretty nice with deserted streets, although that is not used to the full. I googled a film location at the beginning, which turned out to be Carretera del Mig, a mile-long street with low, run-down, or rather unsightly, commercial buildings on both sides. It's great how they can transform that into something completely different with a simple filter and some rubbish on the street. A really good film location by the way, ugly but beautiful.

To be honest, I don't know too much about the Sandra Bullock movie. But it can't have been as weak as this Spanish version, can it? A film that adds little to the original I think. Is this the path Netflix wants to take?

A film that is very similar to Shyamalan's The Happening (Film, 2008) of course. The first hour was definitely OK with this one. The chaos, the panic, the random suicides, the mystery. It did have something. This is followed by an extremely strange statement from divine angels and people who had to be liberated. The ending didn't really match the nice beginning either. On the Montjuic with the cable car, all a bit too much of a good thing. Let alone how Sebastian tried to stop those others. There wasn't much magic or mystery left...
