Sergio Leone - L'Italiano Che Inventò L'America plot

On the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of Sergio Leone's death, this documentary pays tribute to one of the great legends of world cinema. Sergio Leone's unique artistic vision has transcended national borders, created the genre of the Spaghetti Western and forever changed the international film panorama with his innovative stylistic and narrative solutions, which have now become part of the language of film. Enriched with precious archival footage from the Cineteca di Bologna, including rare sound recordings and behind-the-scenes film clips, the film sees the direct participation of the Leone family for the first time and features interviews with both Leone's longtime collaborators and icons of Hollywood who have been profoundly influenced by his work.

Nice.

Good, not too long documentary about Sergio Leone. My unfortunately chosen username from x number of years ago inevitably makes me look like a fanboy and although it is true that I think he is the best director ever, I have regretted that username for a long time for that reason. It's almost inevitable that I think he is the best director ever. I've seen 6 of the man's films, including 2 masterpieces and three "simply" excellent films. Then I can hardly say anything other than that he is the best for me.

This documentary provides a concise, but also quite complete portrait of his career. Not much attention is paid to his background, but as he progresses through his career, every now and then a personal chord is struck. This way everything remains interwoven and, in addition to a truckload of well-known actors and directors, we get to see his daughters and son, among others.

The documentary remains human, although the focus is more on cinema. The approach with which he made films such as the Dollars trilogy is sufficiently discussed, but it is the calvary of 12 years to make Once Upon a Time in America that leaves the most impression on a human level, also because the result was disastrous. It is a shame that Leone did not get around to filming the siege of Leningrad, but unbridled smoking of cigars and eating spaghetti carbonara is also not the best combination for growing old, of course.
