Direct hit, regularly hilarious, unique Lanthimos style, at the same time with clear messages that never come across as pretentious or proselytizing and Stone deserves all the awards she has won and will win. Here and there it dips a bit, Alexandria comes to mind, otherwise the film would have taken the full blow. Reasonably accessible too, so give it a chance to everyone.

After the much more accessible The Favorite, Yorgos Lanthimos does his thing again with Poor Things. And in addition to the fascinating colorful figures, it is now also visually more outside the lines. But the film is not only visually supported, Emma Stone and Willem Dafoe each give a starring role. You expect a role like this from Dafoe, although he is really good here too. Emma Stone in particular goes all out in a very fascinating film role. In recent years, her roles have become more diverse and increasingly distant from the former rom-com roles. Unfortunately, only Mark Ruffalo is much less appropriate here. But I think Stone can already make room for some acting awards at home.
Poor Things is cinema that you unfortunately don't see enough of and is good in many areas (visual, story, acting) and can captivate the viewer for a very long time. It seems to lose the reins a bit towards the end, but in the end it is a fascinating film. With a lot of symbolism from which you have to decide for yourself what you think you want to interpret. A film from 2023, but mainly released in 2024. So this is a strong start to a new film year.

With Lanthimos at the helm you know that people will color outside the lines. And how! While the first minutes of the film had you blinking at what was coming your way, a look of wonder and amazement is soon created by all this creativity and unique setting. The house alone will leave your eyes open, but the world outside is also kitschy, fantastic, fairytale-like in that Victorian style with futuristic elements.
A perfect role for Emma Stone who is increasingly leaving the mainstream genre behind. And that is also true of Lanthimos because both seem to have found each other. Emma Stone can completely do her thing and does it with verve. At the side of her God(win) (Baxter), her creator, she becomes a modern and feminine Frankenstein who discovers her sexuality after the UK phase.
Great dialogues too, sometimes a bit elevated, but very funny and witty in that way. Especially when they came from Bella Baxter. A film that undoubtedly contains a lot of symbolism. With the crazy setting you will certainly be presented with pleasant entertainment where time simply flies by. Get Stone's second statue ready! Top movie! Although some may not like this...
