Portrait of a novice paramedic in New York is even grimmer than Scorcese's Bringing Out The Dead. Sheridan and Penn are excellent as the rookie and the old hand in the trade, but Michael Pitt steals the film as the villainous Lafontaine. Mike Tyson, on the other hand, is a mockery in this dynamically filmed, but very depressing psychological drama that is certainly not an advertisement for ambulance personnel. Or from New York. Certainly not for people with a weak stomach.

Good film about a younger and older paramedic who work together in the ambulance. A dark film full of misery without any ounce of hope. Not really a story and therefore a bit monotonous. But a raw and at the same time atmospheric portrait of the ins and outs of being an ambulance worker in New York. Excellent acting from Tye Sheridan and Sean Penn.

Rarely grim and depressing film about the fortunes of paramedics in New York. Strongly played by Sean Penn and Tye Sheridan and very powerfully portrayed, but the relentless stream of misery that is poured out on the viewer is sometimes a bit too much. The plot and characters are somewhat obscured. Nevertheless, a fascinating viewing experience, with many memorable supporting roles by non-professional actors.
