Longest Third Date plot

It is March 2020. Americans Khani and Matt decide to have their third date take place in Costa Rica. Of course they cannot suspect that the corona pandemic is about to break out. Once they arrive, however, they are saddened to see how a succession of lockdowns has been announced in the United States. Life comes to a standstill and the two twenty-somethings are sentenced to a longer stay in the Latin American country: in the end, the journey takes three months. Matt quickly indicates that he cannot keep up a facade for long in this kind of quarantine situation: being yourself takes a little less effort. Moreover, there is an unmistakable click: Khani also gradually begins to realize that she is beginning to develop feelings for Matt.

Life of Matt

The emergence of Matt and Khani's relationship is unique in that most people in a similar situation probably don't have a camera on half the time. This has also ensured that this production came about in the first place. Because without these images, there are more than enough people who know someone who has a unique love story, or who play the leading role in it themselves..

In that sense Longest Third Date feels pretty superfluous, but if I were to reason this through you could of course name an endless list of productions that are superfluous. It all looks nice and I thought it was nice to see a story unfold that wasn't scripted. Although you can of course guess the course from the first minute.

I would have found it interesting to get a little more depth into the psyche of Khani, but especially Matt. At the end of the documentary he does make a short statement that he was addicted to posting and the adrenaline boost of likes, but I found the moments when he was filming where nothing actually happened, really bizarre. Wondering what else would be under this if he would have talked to a psychologist about this. I would have preferred to see this element explored in depth. Especially because the bond you have with someone else in real life is much more important. Because that's the band that really matters, and Matt himself acknowledged this. Anyway, it does not alter the fact that it is nevertheless nice to see the love unfold between two people while flying, but it remains a bit superficial.
