"Ghosted but not gone."
After a near-death experience, young girl Darby Harper gains the ability to see dead people. She becomes self-absorbed and isolated from her schoolmates. Darby mentors lonely ghosts who have yet to complete something important on Earth. Everything changes when Capri, the most popular girl in school, dies unexpectedly in a freak accident. Despite the fact that Capri's upcoming birthday party is off, she begs Darby to convince her friends to let the party go ahead as planned. To appease the wrath of the undead diva, Darby will have to come out of her self-imposed exile sheep and reinvent herself in the land of the living.

Childish films that make off with "adult" topics are not new discoveries in our current world, but the way director Silas Howard works on it is questionable to say the least. The character of Riele Downs is central, a poorly portrayed and completely unsympathetic figure. The screenplay by Becca Greens and Wenonah Wilms never suggests that Downs learns anything from anything. Everything is handled with a large dose of sarcasm and, moreover, Darby has a tendency to get out of everything by lying. The most remarkable thing is that she is seen as a reliable point of contact for the recently deceased to "move on", but as a ghost I would run away from her very quickly. The supporting roles of Auli'i Cravalho and Asher Angel are convincingly played and the direction often looks modern, but the content hangs together like loose sand. Children will undoubtedly find this entertaining, but for a film with this message it has significantly little educational development.
