"Can I call this place my home?"
Seventeen-year-old Sarya has lived in Japan since she was five. It seemed easier for her to tell her friends that she is from Germany, but in reality she and her family are Kurdish refugees from Turkey. However, all adversity now seems to be a thing of the past: she is doing well in school, she has friends and there is even a boy in her life, Sato, for whom she has special feelings. Nothing seems to stand in the way of a normal life until one day her father's residence permit is revoked. And that has huge consequences.

The painful reality of Kurdish refugees in Japan. A coming-of-age film about a teenager who takes care of herself and her younger sister and brother when their residence permit is revoked after 12 years (!) and the father is held in detention. Director Emma Kawawada has wrapped the drama in an appealing film. Recommended! Remarkable fact: the family members also form a family in real life. This contributes to the mutual interaction appearing very natural.
