Les Liaisons Dangereuses plot

Seventeen-year-old Célène is idealistic, believes in absolute love and is more interested in reading than social networks. She prepares to live separated from her fiancé Pierre for a while, and leaves Paris for Biarritz. There, she soon finds herself up against the phony elite of her new school, ruled by former great movie star and Instagram queen Vanessa, and famed surfer Tristan. He is both dangerous and seductive. Célène falls in love with him and has no idea that she is at the center of a cruel bet between Tristan and Vanessa. How far will they go?

The eighteenth-century novel of the same name by Choderlos de Laclos has been filmed countless times. The only new thing this version brings is that the plot is given a modern, contemporary look. That doesn't make the story any better. All in all, a superfluous film.

I experienced the film more as a modern scenic play or musical. Thought the roles were quite beautiful and dramatically brought to the fore. Some things were portrayed realistically as they are today (e.g. bullying via social media). Cinematography was regularly very beautiful! The ending reminded me a bit of Romeo and Juliet with all the added drama. Yes, the film does drop a few stitches here and there, but a moan who pays attention to that (for example, suddenly dried clothes). I certainly enjoyed the movie. I also plan to watch Cruel Intentions, I already have the DVD and I'm curious.......

Certainly not bored with this modern version of the famous play that has already been filmed several times and is now being given a new look. The acting is certainly solid, with the lead actress Paola Locatelli being a treat. The social media with the theme of bullying is criticized, just like the selfish attention to your own number of followers in order to get into the picture and thus form an unhealthy self-image. 6/10
