Requiem voor Auschwitz plot

13 years ago, director Bob Entrop made the film 'A Piece of Blue in the Air'. It is the first film in the Netherlands to portray the murder of nearly one million Sinti and Roma during the Second World War. One of the protagonists was Sinti composer Roger Moreno-Rathgeb. He said that in 1998 he started working on his first score for the Requiem, which he wants to dedicate to the victims of Auschwitz. After visiting the camp he blocked. The self-taught musician and composer Roger Moreno-Rathgeb, himself a Sinti, had already made considerable progress in 1993 with his 'Requiem For Auschwitz', but a visit to the concentration camp caused a long-lasting writer's block. The 60-minute piece of music did not premiere until May 3, 2012. This documentary follows Moreno-Rathgeb in the run-up to a performance by the Roma Philharmonic, an extra special occasion because his parents are there this time. Entrop films the composer at places of great historical importance in the history of the persecution of Sinti and Roma, including the Brandenburg Gate and Auschwitz. In addition, Entrop shows interviews from his documentary Een Stukje Blauw In De Lucht (2007), in which Roma and Sinti break a taboo by speaking about what they experienced during the Second World War to grandchildren of the interviewees. If you didn't know that the Nazis also deported Roma and Sinti en masse to concentration camps to be gassed, then you will probably find this more surprising.
