Artist Lizzy [Michelle Williams] is preparing for an exhibition and therefore tries to focus as much as possible on the creation of her art objects. It doesn't help that her landlord Jo [Hong Chau], also an artist, does nothing about the defects Lizzy reports to her. Portrait of someone who withdraws from a society in which (not surprisingly, actually) very little happens. Every now and then there is some bickering, and we also see Lizzy during her creative process. Perhaps fans of Bob Ross can see something of poetry in this, but the main character is a lot less accessible anyway.

Disappointing film about an artist who cares for a bird attacked by her cat. An excruciatingly slow slice of life film. Not too much happens and the characters are also quite boring. Kelly Reichardt films may be to your liking, and that is clearly not the case with this one.

Now seeing this film as 'previously unreleased' in the cinema, it pains me to see such a score and not a single positive message for this film. This film is a fitting and very good part of Kelly Reichardt's oeuvre. Reichardt is once again working with Michelle Williams, who is quite unrecognizable in terms of styling and also a bit of a whiner. This may make the film a little less accessible, but all the characters and the emotion once again breathe the humanity that a film like Wendy and Lucyalso has. It is so pure and the emotion is built up so beautifully. Highly recommended, 4*
