Light-hearted dramedy about an average family, whose life gradually comes under pressure when the eldest son has his eye on a scholarship because of his basketball talent. When love affairs threaten to throw a spanner in the works, the father feels compelled to intervene. An amusing film with a handful of funny moments, but which, overall, barely rises above mediocrity.

Portrait of a typical Irish-American family in Queens centered on Leo [Ray Romano] and Angela Russo [Laurie Metcalf]. They are pleasantly surprised that their taciturn, shy son Matthew [Jacob Ward] turns out to have a smooth girlfriend and when a talent scout suggests that Matthew has enough talent to go to college on a basketball scholarship, everything seems to be on the right track. to go up. Of course it goes differently. Yes, the setup sounds like a clichéd coming-of-age movie and at first glance this seems to be completely cut cake. Until it turns out that the scenario focuses mainly on the parents' struggle. And gradually all those members of the family turn out to be much more authentic than you would expect. A triumph for all involved, but especially for Romano, who manages to get an excellent performance from the entire cast and moved me to tears several times. And what a brilliant catchphrase!

Nice film about a father who wants his son to play basketball at a big school. The whole family is well placed here. The dialogues are alternately good, but sometimes a bit corny. The film has a pleasant, relaxed pace and a fine cast. It doesn't have much to it, but it easily looks away. A small 3.0 stars.
