The Mission plot
Four young American Mormons travel to Finland to convert people. There seems to be no greater contrast than between the young missionaries and the Finns, perhaps the most irreligious, reserved and skeptical people in Europe. This portrait takes an unexpectedly respectful look at a group of young people from a religious community that is all too often depicted as closed, strange and full of rules and taboos.

Four youths raised with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints move from Utah to Finland for the 2-year mission all Mormon youth take on. We follow them during their preparation (including lessons in Finnish) and during their attempts to discuss their message with Finnish passers-by. In personal conversations it appears that these young people have insecurities about their mission and struggle with emotions that every (former) adolescent will recognize. Anderson paints an honest, candid portrait of young people many of us would rather ignore. A fine performance and an excellent documentary.
