With the help of his brother and two accomplices, criminal Matt Kirk escapes on his way to prison. They flee by boat, but a broken propeller causes them to drift ashore on the small island of Pinchgut. They take the caretaker Pat Fulton and his family who are staying there hostage. When a police officer visits the island, he finds out about the hostage situation and calls in his colleagues. Matt and his cronies are soon surrounded by armed police officers and try to find a way out.

Well-constructed for its time. The whole thing is a familiar concept. Good plan, something goes wrong, and the various characters start to clash. Ray and McCallum interact well, with Sears taking on a well-played, caring role. Mullen is the more intelligent of the couple, with Duggan, as the "schlemiel," ultimately managing to summon heroism within himself. Firing the film probably went over budget...
