Had expected more from this, thought this was more of a 'dark' thriller than pure horror. It is also a very slow film and I experienced the majority of the film too little tension, the ending was the best. Aja and Robert Patrick's facial expression is always the max, but for the total picture, a meager 5/10.

The tragic death of Miriam Graham [Pamela Bell] has left deep marks on her husband Josiah [Robert Patrick] and her children Thomas [Scott Haze], Eli [Nick Stahl] and Mary [Kelli Garner]. The confused Thomas returns to his childhood home where he tries to reconnect with his father. Eli tries to get his life back on track after serving a jail term for a sex crime, and Mary and her husband [Tony Hale] undergo a psychiatric evaluation to see if they're suitable as foster parents. Mainly a not without merit melodrama, although the annoyingly sinister musical cues would have us believe otherwise. But there is a strong, lurid denouement and the acting is fine.

Damn, good movie. Ridiculously average at the moment, but I assume this will improve. More of a mystery film with a supernatural element and yet mainly psychological horror. The hard and uncomfortable themes (suicide, parricide, incest) that run through the film give What Josiah Saw a bleak and dreary atmosphere and the ending has another surprise in store.

Actually, this film is a huge success. The direction is very careful, the actors (especially Nick Stahl) are particularly good in their roles, and because the film is divided into three chapters, the ending is completely unpredictable, although you understand that it has something to do with dark family secrets. . However, how the fork fits in the stem remains a matter of guesswork. A slow burner, but one that manages to hold the viewer firmly. Works with some well-known ideas but succeeds exceptionally well in maintaining the dynamics of the story. Don't watch this for bloody horror.
You don't leave it with a good feeling, except for the fact that you just saw a very good movie. Recommended. I could possibly see this being increased to 4*.
