Love between members of unequal social classes is a cherished theme in literature and also in the film world. In this film, the romance is framed by a trivial crime story. In my opinion, that does not improve the film. A shame.

The film has potential, even though this is a very tried and tested concept and is apparently even a remake of an existing Swedish film. I don't know the status of those films, but apparently this resonates in Sweden, otherwise they wouldn't be making a remake.

It’s all very obvious with the chemistry between JJ and Elisabeth, but I’m a sucker for coming-of-age stories and puppy love. It always takes me back to my youth, and in a film like this, it just works. In that regard, I share BBarbie’s opinion that the whole detour with the crime stuff doesn’t do the film any good. It throws everything off balance and leaves a missed opportunity to properly develop the bond between the two and let JJ’s struggles in life prevail. In that respect, the film ends just a little too unsatisfyingly to be convincing.

2.5*

Swedish romantic drama about two young people from different social classes who fall in love despite their different backgrounds. You see this subject in many other films as well, so it is a tried and tested concept. I find the first part of the film better because in the second part the emphasis lies too much on the criminal aspect of the film. I would have preferred more personal development with a slightly different ending. The actors certainly do not act badly. I find it impressive that Mustapha Aarab, who plays JJ, learned to speak Swedish so quickly after his recent move to Sweden. The plot is not bad, and the cinematography is okay too, but it could have had more potential. But if you don't expect too much, it is certainly fun to watch!
