Memphis Depay - Met Beide Benen plot

Filmmaker Jessica Villerius has followed Memphis Depay's team since he was seriously injured in December 2019. The Orange international is closely followed from the all-decisive surgery of his cruciate ligament, at the beginning of January 2020, until his first Champions League match after the injury. The documentary shows the world of Memphis, of which often only a small part is visible to the outside world, and shows the multiple faces of the man that everyone seems to have an opinion about. Memphis decides to show it all: fear, happiness, criticism, dreams, racism, pain, wealth, music, his brother in TBS and his mission: nothing remains unspoken or unseen.

During a league match in December 2019 against Stade Rennes, footballer Memphis Depay tore his cruciate ligaments. For the center forward of Olympique Lyon and the Dutch national team, participation in the 2020 European Football Championship seems unfeasible. Villerius follows Depay during his rehabilitation period in the hope of getting a more nuanced picture of him than we have of him through the media. Starts with Memphis who, urged on by one of his loyal friends, recites to the camera the self-written rap to which the title refers. It's not much, so when Villerius talks about Depay's 'talent for rapping' she shoots herself in the foot. This film is therefore mainly an ego trip of a man who – as mother Cora confirms – is not very strong verbally and does not get further than platitudes such as 'I had to work hard for it' and 'I would do that for all my friends '. The so-called "critical injury" is one from which countless professional footballers have recovered before him, but that doesn't stop Villerius from depicting Depay as a hero who overcomes an impossible adversity. I wouldn't be surprised if Depay thought the same way himself. If you already have an opinion about Depay, this won't change that.
