This film was a bit of a disappointment. Perhaps my expectations were a bit too high. I've read the book and watched the 1998 version. I could completely relate to both and thought the story was brilliantly told.

But unfortunately, I didn't feel that way with this film. Ralph Fiennes didn't show enough of his human side (in my opinion), and Juliette Binoche's annoying giggling started to get on my nerves. I know Heathcliff is a hard and bitter man, but he also has a human and sweet side. That didn't come across enough in the film, making it very difficult for me to empathize with him. Still, I gave it a 3.5 because of the beautiful setting.

The film is somewhat shoddily put together. It therefore doesn't quite live up to the book, nor to the 1939 film version by William Wyler starring Laurence Olivier and Merle Oberon. It's still a good story, though.
