Erotic dancing to Wayfaring Stranger, you just have to make it up.
With her boundaries and gender-transcending protagonist, Ducournau is on top of the trending topic of the moment, but you can hardly call this coquettish.
Alexia - a lot less cuddly than the heroine from Grave - gives the concept 'driving a car' a specific meaning, and also throws a lot of punch at it, but an apparently slumbering father issue finds an echo in firefighter Vincent's love for his missing son gone completely off the rails.
That bizarre relationship cracks and squeaks and grinds, but ultimately seems to be the soft, tender core of this film. A love that really doesn't matter at all.
A film that reminded me a bit of Claire Denis' work; of course also because of Lindon's (excellent) performance, but such an obsessive, bizarre relationship, or at least the psychology behind it, in a Denis film I could well imagine.
I'm still not quite sure how to rate this film. Titane undeniably has qualities, but it could very well be that after a second review, I don't like it.
I mean, you have to be able to 'believe' to some extent in the 'truth' that the film presents you.
We're going to have another look at it sooner or later. But just to be sure, I'm putting 4 stars in for the time being

Pretentious misfire. Can't make anything else out of it unfortunately. I really do consider myself a seasoned movie buff, but I didn't draw this one. Mainly annoyed me by the vagueness, the far-fetched symbolism, and the incoherent and holey plot. Metaphors, fine, but I thought the effect was worthless.
Nowhere have I developed any sympathy for the main characters and that makes the film slide past me. It is above all one big style exercise. When I read the reviews below, however, I notice that there are movie viewers who love to understand this symbolism and to be able to explain it on this forum. Also fine. For me personally anything but a Golden Palm.

Surprising Cannes winner.
Less surprising who has seen Raw, but it is not exactly the type of film you would expect as the winner of a festival that usually identifies with slightly more brave arthouse. I was therefore a little afraid that Ducournau had slowed down, but that turned out to be absolutely unnecessary.
The link to Cronenberg (and a little Tsukamoto) isn't that surprising, but it isn't all that relevant either. Yes, Ducournau plays with body horror, but in terms of vibe, I think it's a completely different film. Especially because she also effectively incorporates elements of the grimy social drama into her film. I think she combines both tendencies quite well, but you do get a dip halfway through the film because of that.
Visually more than okay, soundtrack is also very cool (although I do have some questions about the mosh pit during the hardcore song, but let's be happy that it is not a "film music" excerpt for once) and Rousselle does a really excellent job . The face of the film, curious if she can still play that in future projects.
