Radio host Sara [Juliette Binoche] has been dating Jean [Vincent Lindon] for nine years, a former rugby player who is trying to get back on track after incarceration by teaming up with his old friend François [Grégoire Colin]. The fact that François and Sara have had a long-term relationship is no obstacle for Jean, but for Sara, tightening the ties with her ex brings up old, unprocessed feelings. Food for a superficial bouquet series gimmick, but Denis turns it into an extremely intimate and exciting relationship drama by frequently holding the main characters captive in many extreme close-ups and the sublime play of Binoche and Lindon results in an impressive explosion of emotions.

The story follows a pretty standard pattern. It starts with a perfect love affair, no blemish in the air, and then something happens that makes love slowly but surely crumble. That 'something' in this case is the arrival of a third character: business partner and kind-of friend of his, ex-lover of hers. Old love doesn't rust and everything breaks.

The movie failed to grab me. Initially partly because some rather clumsy information was given through dialogues. ("You know that [something the interlocutor knows, of course, but now the viewer knows it too]) Unfortunately, when we as viewers knew what we needed to know about the maker and that annoyance ebbed away, it didn't get much more interesting.

I think the drama was too small, the love was not deeply rooted, there was little at stake in my opinion. At the end I thought: well, it's good that they break up, right? All's well that ends well.

It seems as if the filmmakers have fully deployed the talents of acting cannon Juliette Binoche….
Zoom in on her and spin… Binoche certainly doesn't disappoint, but the film does.

Especially because Sara has to fall in love with her ex Francois quite suddenly , like an overaged teenage girl
If she only hears his name…..while it is completely intangible on the screen, especially because the role of Francois is small, and it certainly cannot be deduced from their interaction. The entire focus is on How that works out for the couple, Sara and Jean (acts excellent too)
. In this way, what is in itself exciting does not become very exciting in the film.
Would have lived here more…

Not my movie, and maybe a wrong moment, but I really couldn't get it with this thing. While I still have Claire Denis pretty high, and Lindon and Binoche all the way. But the epic loses itself in too much worry, and then without any prospect of a happy ending. Then I quickly think, but you are all more or less grown people, it's not like you're experiencing this kind of adolescent stuff for the first time? Not that it makes it more fun, but you can still give it a place, and please without make you feel like that.

Not all very French, as I know it. Sometimes things go wrong in love, but then you say 'C'est la vie' and you keep your sadness to yourself. Unless it is so big that it ends in a crime of passion, but the only crime of passion that I see arise here is one that prevents Denis from making a next film. Shame on Lindon and Binoche's talent, I hope to see them again in a good movie soon.
