Devyatayev plot
The year 1945, the period of the Second World War. Mikhail Devyatayev is a Soviet pilot. However, he is captured and imprisoned in a German concentration camp. Devyatayev decides to lead an escape attempt and since he is a pilot, he does this by hijacking a plane.

Director Timur Bekmambetov returns to the Russian setting to reawaken this historical story. Devyatayev's technical innovations were the main focus of the news beforehand, but unfortunately, there's little difference in that respect. The sense of action remains well-received, however, with a spectacular opening and a thrilling finale. Visually, it all looks very well-made, but Bekmambetov can't hide the fact that the middle section is particularly slow to get off the ground. The lack of focus on the characters is primarily to blame, making the content rather uninteresting. It's especially frustrating, then, that the middle section accounts for approximately 60 minutes, meaning the final result falls just short of a passing grade.
