In 2000, the political spotlight shines on Miami because Dade County (where Miami is located) would be the deciding factor in the victory for George W. Bush. However, the international custody battle over six-year-old Elian Gonzalez causes a political earthquake and has a major impact on the outcome of the presidential election.
