The Call plot

The story is set in the fall of 1987. A group of friends from a small town set out on a journey. After a tragic accident, they end up on the doorstep of the Cranstons' home. It turns out to be a sinister couple and when the friends enter the house, they don't realize the dangerous situation they have ended up in. It becomes quite a task for them to survive the night.

Timothy Woodward Jr. just can't live up to it, unfortunately for him the reactions of the viewing public are mediocre. The highest rating is American Violence (2017) with a 2.86 on Moviemeter. And that while he has already directed more than 10 films.

I still like Linda "Lin" Shaye as an actress, in this film she also dominates with her film husband Tobin Bell, known as the sadistic serial killer Jigsaw in the entire Saw film series, here the two of them form the Cranston couple.

"The Call" is unfortunately another one of the many horror films that are released in a long row these days and this one doesn't really add much to the genre. The story is nice, the older actors play their roles well and the youth hobbles behind a bit. It's not bad but to recommend it to other film lovers of this genre?

A 6 for the whole.

Horribly bad movie. What cheap junk. And then those two oldies who did play in good horror movies should be ashamed. That one was in SAW. And the other in Insidious. This is really not recommended. Only watch if you want to get grumpy. This is not a B movie, but much worse.

Nice.

Of course, not a film that will score high with the majority of the audience. The reactions make that clear right away, but I also did not expect that this would appeal to many people if I was the first on the planet to watch this film. For me, it is nicely colorful and fast entertainment.

Two big names in horror casting join forces to get something out of it. Shaye and Bell are no longer nobodies. Too bad that, despite both members acting well, they can't really be the drive of the film. They are actually somewhat boring villains who can't evoke the fear that Woodward Jr. seems to be looking for.

Chaotic but striking in terms of stylization. Lots of bombast, pacing and happening. The film never stands still in principle and also has some nice things conceptually. However, the time is never taken to work this out properly, because after the introduction that is only moderately glued together, the registers are opened almost immediately and the peace never returns.

It is entertaining, more than creative in terms of decoration and Woodward Jr. throws enough colors against it. Still, it is not really an atmospheric or haunting film, just one in which the passion can be smelled but nothing more is done with it to make it something worth mentioning. More focus and a bit more peace could have done wonders, but for what it is now it runs smoothly and is entertaining at all times. If it also looks like a film that is really for me, you have come a long way. Nice.
