A space science fiction film that is visually very beautiful and atmospheric. Hugely colorful and, above all, detailed. The spaceships and setting are truly top-notch. Doesn't come across as cheap or artificial. Special effects are top-notch. Korean, but in my opinion not low-budget. The only downside is the typical Asian 'childishness'. A bit on the level of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles genre. But still, I thought this one was okay. Especially in these COVID-19 times where Hollywood is no longer managing to bring decent films to market. And I am simply a fan of real sci-fi, of which we already have little on offer in this genre. And certainly at this graphic level. This film is definitely worthy of Hollywood. Don't expect a profound story like Star Wars, but view it as the Korean version of Guardians of the Galaxy, although I find the latter just slightly better... Due to the lack of competition at the moment, which makes me really enjoy the selection of such films, this gets 3.5 stars. Also worth mentioning that it is thanks to Netflix that we can enjoy films like this...

There is no shortage of spectacle in this CGI parade of wreckers in the universe. However, those looking for something resembling a somewhat coherent story will be sorely disappointed. The first hour or so is still entertaining. After that, the film largely descends into visual repetition, culminating in a predictable ending. Purely for fans.

Space Sweepers has interesting ideas, but is not a fluid, coherent whole. The film offers plenty of material in the form of characters, locations, and legal and moral codes. An interesting vision of the future unfolds in which mega tech companies rule the world as if they were sovereign states. However, the high frequency of scene changes, the fragmented presentation of the future world, and the moderate investment in the character development of the four main characters make the story feel jumpy and fleeting.
Visually sound. Technocratic. Metallic. Skillfully copied from other sci-fi works. Nothing new under the sun, but simply solid craftsmanship that lends the film a chilling atmosphere. At the same time, the size of the sets and locations has been kept modest. Wider optical backgrounds, which give the viewer a better insight into the bleak appearance of the world, were largely absent. The few shots that did focus on this looked clearly computer-generated and rather shabby.
The film suffers from a multitude of conflicting impressions that negatively affect the coherence between scenes and events. The grim dystopian opening is followed by rapid shifts of hectic action in space, dynamic fistfights, pathetic plotlines, and even jovial interactions between the characters, including flashes of slapstick and crude humor. The storyline and visuals are jumpy and convey many different emotional signals that are sometimes difficult to reconcile.
Space Sweepers is entertaining in itself, but lacks a surprising storyline and fails to inspire enthusiasm. The film is a strange mélange of impressions that strips it of any serious intention (should there be any at all, of course) and robs the viewer of enthusiastic and unbridled fascination for 136 minutes.
