Malibu Rescue: The Next Wave (2020)

Part 2.

Apparently, part 1 and the series itself (which I haven't seen) were such a success among young viewers that they had part 2 made as well. The same director, too, which makes it very similar to part 1 in terms of style. But then again, the director seems to enjoy making these kinds of films, so why not.

It is essentially a repetition of part 1, with less introduction but the same structure. As a result, there is generally more room to cover matters better and more thoroughly, but the film remains a bit rushed and seems to pursue "quick entertainment" a little too literally.

The cast is back and they're still doing a great job. They will surely become more famous later on, so for now, it seems this is where it ends. Ziering is unfortunately no longer featured, but that probably has to do with something that happened in the series. The series that I haven't seen, by the way.

This film has a bit more pace, especially towards the end. But the finale itself is too sweet and, above all, too easy. The fact that they all reach world championship level in the blink of an eye also feels sloppy. This film is just a bit too simple in its story anyway, even though the opening was actually quite funny.

It is fast-paced entertainment. Fresh and lighthearted until the end and quite short, but it still skips parts. In that respect, it seems like she just wanted to get it over with as quickly as possible, and that is a shame. Still, it is fun entertainment that you get through quickly. I actually quite like it, and it does a great job of combating boredom.

Tyler [Ricardo Hurtado], Eric [Alkoya Brunson], Lizzie [Abigail Donnelly], Gina [Breanna Yde], and Dylan [Jackie R. Jacobson] are gearing up to participate in 'The Beach Master', an international competition that Team USA has won for the past four years. But the opponents are much better, and against Australia's arch-rivals, they don't seem to stand a ghost of a chance. More of the same silliness and face-pulling that adults cringe at, but which will probably keep children entertained for a little over an hour.
