A selfish dancer, April, ruins a Broadway audition and returns home against her will. She does her best to avoid everyone in her close-knit community, including her first love Nick. Then she's asked by her former dance teacher to coach a team of young misfits for a big dance competition.

Family film about a failed, cynical Broadway dancer who returns to her hometown with her tail between her legs. There, she reluctantly begins teaching dance to a motley crew of talentless young children. The rest of the story is predictable, with the caveat that, for a dance film, the dance scenes are substandard to my taste.

Lack of money and a video on social media of a disastrous audition force April [Sofia Carson] to give up her dream of a career on Broadway and return to her father [Enrico Colantoni] in Wisconsin. With great reluctance, she accepts an offer to teach dance to a group of girls preparing for the preliminary round of a national dance competition. In the preliminary round, 3 of the 4 participating teams advance; a judge [Rex Lee] is a key figure on Broadway; there is the classic 'gay best friend' [Brandon Kyle Goodman] and a hunky teenage love interest [Wolfgan Novogratz]. Donna Lynne Champlin is amusing as the group leader (and sign language interpreter) and the finale isn't a total disaster, but you won't find many more predictable than this.
