On August 16, 1958, Hungarian refugees Ábel [Tamás Szabó Kimmel] and Bános [Jozsef Kadas] took ambassador Koroknai [János Kulka] and a number of staff hostage at the Hungarian embassy in Bern. What exactly happened that day has never been made clear, which gives Szász and screenwriter Norbert Köbli room to dramatize the story. There is a spiteful employee [Rémusz Szikszai] who wants to assert himself, a young woman [Rozi Lovas] who does refugee work and identifies the perpetrators, and the Swiss inspector Lambert [László I. Kish] who can do it for a long time, because the hostage situation formally takes place on Hungarian territory. The lack of visual dynamism betrays that this was made for television, but the story is captivating and the acting is fine.
