The Card Counter plot

"He's Playing the Hand He Was Dealt."

In 'The Card Counter' we follow gambler and former soldier William Tell. His heyday in the casinos comes to an end when he is approached by Cirk, a vulnerable but angry young man seeking revenge against a military colonel. This is also an old enemy of William, who sees his relationship with Cirk as an opportunity for redemption. Along with his mysterious financier La Linda, William takes Cirk on a journey from casino to casino until they set their sights on winning a major poker tournament in Las Vegas. However, William eventually begins to see that it is an impossible task to keep Cirk on the right path, especially since he himself is also being sucked back into the darkness of his past.

Was quite disappointing, expected more.

idea is certainly nice, but almost nothing about the card game counting etc.

very strange ending.

maybe I didn't get it right or something.

I'll see if I can find an explanation somewhere...

Of the Paul Schrader films, not one has really stuck with me. I can add this casino movie to that list. It also helps, of course, that I have nothing to do with casinos and with the people who frequent those gambling centers.

A film about gambling and cards always attracts my attention, but unfortunately.

Gloomy and depressing looking protagonist just doesn't make you grab a rope.

And that little guy who comes up with that muddled story after fifteen minutes, no, I couldn't care less.

Missed opportunity. Turned off after half an hour and pulled a cold beer from the fridge.
