Contemporary crime film about cybercrime, based on true facts “except for what we made up or changed”. Compared to detective stories “from the old box”, the film falls short in terms of tension. The trendy design compensates for this somewhat, although the acting does not hold up.
Things did not end well with Ross Ulbricht. He was sentenced to 2 life sentences + 40 years, without the possibility of parole. Quite harsh for someone who said he was looking for the ultimate freedom for individuals.

Sufficient relaxation.

Not to be confused with the Dutch film from 2017, this thriller with the 'same' subject comes from the United States. The history of Silk Road, or the Marketplace for hard drugs and other prohibited items, is explained here in a light-hearted manner. Even though it is based on facts, you don't have to be an IT professional to understand that the 'rise and fall' of founder Ulbricht may have been a bit more complex.

The advantage of the film is that it has quite a bit of pace. There are also a few nice supporting roles, including Darrell Britt-Gibson as an informant and Paul Walter Hauser, who certainly brings laughs. The comic note adds to the lightness. The beautiful Alexandra Shipp also knows how to attract attention despite her limited screen time. Strangely enough, protagonist Nick Robinson himself is a little disappointing.

What's disappointing about the film is that it cuts a lot of corners every now and then, which is partly why it comes across as a bit superficial. Also, the subplot with a nice Jason Clarke as a retired cop doesn't really come together, even though it is essential for the story. You could argue that the whole thing deserved better in the first place, but if you don't make too many demands and are looking for some relaxation, a close enough score is appropriate.

Reasonable film, but unfortunately the expected denouement - in which the 'dinosaur policeman' outdoes the arrogant new guard by tracing and arresting the cyber-criminal on his own - unfortunately does not materialize.
