Definitely interesting to see. Benedict also plays pretty strong I must say in this print. You can also see that he has done a lot for it. He's almost chasing Christian Bale here, although he's a long way from that, but chapeau nonetheless. Like these kind of movies, the tension is more subcutaneous. Perhaps less of a movie to watch after a busy day, but all in all it was not too bad. In these kinds of films you always have some more dialogues and sometimes complex roads are taken. Here before I don't feel too busy and I certainly looked captivated. It's not a high flyer either, but perhaps more current than you might think. There are still a lot of geopolitical tensions brewing (just think of China-Taiwain or Russia-Ukraine) and perhaps a Cold War is closer than we think.

Spy movies are often a bit boring with lots of dialogue. And because so many have already been made, not always exciting to watch. I found The Courier to be an exception to this. He starts very strong, then drops off for a while to finish strong. It's actually a typical 3.5 film above average, but since I wanted to give this film something like 7.78 I round it up.

Benedict Cumberbatch has quite a different head and has played in spy movies before, so he has experience with it shall we say. Saw a trailer of The Electrical Life of Louis Wain recently, but it looks a bit strange there. Anyway, The Courier is a strong spy film that is based on true facts. His part with the Russian spy is well worked out. The same goes for his family. Good to show both. A trip to the forest shows what stress does to you. Well filmed. The Russian language is also excellent in this film. A little less I liked the side on the Russian side. You know that every Russian is being watched by another Russian. I thought this was less elaborated. The film also has too short a running time for these kinds of films, because in fact it only lasts 1.45 minutes. Maybe around 2 hours had been busy.

I quite liked the soundtrack, although that waltz didn't have to come back every time. Swan Lake is doing well again. What beautiful music this is.

1) Pay special attention to the men with their protuberances!!

2) In this literal balcony scene I see someone throwing off the balcony. This is NOT featured in the movie. Deleted?

I liked the image itself. It is not a colorful whole. Editing is also not flawless, but completely in the spirit of the cold war. And maybe we're in that again unfortunately...

A good movie based on a true story. Well, what do we know about it? After all, we only know what the media wants us to believe. The image that is now being shown of Russia also seems to be a lie. But even then this film comes across well and it easily looks away.

4**** - a nice 8
