Director Remi Weekes debuts with an original, genuinely scary and emotionally gripping film, which is also beautifully shot and superbly played. The particularly gloomy everyday setting also contributes absolutely to the oppressive atmosphere. The plot unfolds calmly and purposefully builds slowly towards a chilling climax. A very clever combination of horror film and social drama.

Peele-tergeist! And I know, the name Jordan Peele is already exhaustingly used all over the place, even if it has nothing to do with the movie. That was already the case with Antebellum and his name also comes up with His House. Still, it is not very strange, because His House is right up his alley. His House tells a dramatic story about boat people who find a place in England, but end up with a terrible trauma. All of this is then turned into a haunted house movie. A haunted house film with genuinely effective scares in the first hour, especially one of the first jump scares was very strong. However, the drama often prevails. That works fine, by the way, it's those little touches of humor and light-heartedness - where Remi Weekes really seems to want to imitate Jordan Peele - where the film goes in the wrong direction in terms of tone. However, it is only brief, the film is mainly a strong drama with a few strong scares at the beginning. During the climax - when the icy atmosphere is exchanged for some more 'in your face' horror - it unfortunately all gets a bit more stupid.

Nice to see 2 storylines in 1 movie. The film starts lugubrious (thriller) and has nice scares, but as the film progresses - and more is told about the refugees - there is mainly emotion (drama). The ending was very surprising in the end. In short: an absolute must!
