I am not a fan of Christmas movies. But being married is a give and take. But of all the Christmas movies I've had to watch, I actually thought this was a very nice one. It is indeed a safe Disney film with the right mix of whites, blacks, Asians, Indians and I think I even saw a Muslim, but the film looks good and is original. Has a nice dry sense of humour. I'd say pick this one. And I'm not going to say whether it will all work out in the end

When Santa [Jay Brazeau] dies, everyone expects his oldest son Nick [Bill Hader] to succeed him. Nick doesn't really like that, because he doesn't think he has the right qualities. Shortly after his sister Noelle [Anna Kendrick] advises him to take some time for himself, Nick disappears without a trace and Santa's workshop is in turmoil. Noelle decides to track down her brother with the experienced elf Polly [Shirley MacLaine]. The title already makes it clear where things are going in a Christmas comedy that in principle seems to have little more to offer than a feminist slant. But Kendrick is perfect in the title role and makes this one of the best Christmas movies in years. And it's a joy to watch Kendrick and MacLaine work together. Only downside: the CGI effects.
