Three half-sisters, with three different fathers, wonder at the approaching death of their mother: 'Where are we in life? What else do we have in each other?' And above all: 'What to do with our autistic brother Jan?' When April, May and June's critically ill mother realizes she doesn't have long to live, she calls her daughters home. She can only leave this life with peace of mind if she knows that her son Jan will be well taken care of. But confronted with the question, it soon becomes apparent that all three consider themselves unsuitable. In addition, the sisters notice that they have become quite estranged from each other and their brother in recent years. The four will have to get to know each other again if they are to support each other in the difficult time to come.

Since we have been inundated with weak and predictable romcoms from our own soil in recent years, it was "refreshing" to see a more serious film, the theme of euthanasia is a subject that could certainly be made into an interesting film and to be honest to be honest, it may not be the movie of the year, but it's not annoying either.
Maybe it helps that this film has roped in the beautiful Elise Schaap and she also walks naked through the screen in the first minutes of the film , you certainly won't hear me complain about that.

The acting is actually okay in this film, but especially the role of Bas Hoeflaak as the autistic Jan I found rather simply written. Here he shows the classic autism and the inspiration is also (as is known) clearly obtained from Kees. I would have preferred this to be a bit more original and also a bit less cliché, because there are so many forms of autism that with a little more detective work and research, the character Jan could undoubtedly be written in a more interesting way. In any case, Bas Hoeflaak does his best with the material he has received.
The very sweet and super predictable last half hour was completely unnecessary, if you want to make a gripping drama film don't suddenly try to glue together all the loose ends, mother will die but oh well they are in every case happy again!
I am very strongly between a 2.5 and a 3, mainly due to the above negatives and the sometimes downright lazy way of writing, but since the film still entertained me and I have not been irritated for a moment about the cast, I will go for the benefit of the doubt.
It's not that bad anymore!

The basic story about three daughters who have to cope with the imminent death of their mother from lung cancer does not show a high degree of originality. Bas Hoeflaak also fails to pronounce his complex lyrics convincingly in his role as Jan, the youngest - and autistic - brother of April [Linda de Mol], June [Tjitske Reidinga] and May [Elise Schaap]. In fact, the story ends exactly as you would expect from a formulaic family drama, yet director Will Koopman has succeeded in making a film that provides a nice alternation of laughter and tears in the last act.
Olga Zuiderhoek holds sway in every respect and shines as the mother who wants to let the end of her life go her own way and especially the scenes with Elise Schaap provide a big lump in the throat. Her role as the youngest daughter is on paper more interesting than that of De Mol and Reidinga and Schaap cashes in on that with an excellent performance. Patrick Duffy and Gijs Scholten van Asschat also show up at the end against the inevitable end that, despite the somewhat forced tearjerking soundtrack, will definitely not miss its effect. So keep the tissues handy!

I didn't have a good feeling about this movie, but it turned out really well. I myself work with 'normally gifted people with autism' and can therefore be quite critical. Of course every person with autism is different and special, but I thought 'Jan' was a bit too exaggerated. Especially the anger attacks. Otherwise quite well played, especially the dry factual conversations and comments are familiar.
The ladies all played very fresh and appropriate to their character. Tjitske really stood out.
Mother thought I had some wrong timing and sometimes came across as a bit clumsy.
Also a very entertaining movie. I did not expect that.
