On the most special night of the year, when the 'Jellicle' cats celebrate their grand ball, one of them will be chosen by Old Deuteronomy to be born again. A returned cat named Grizabella also returns this evening. However, no one should know anything about her. The evening is shattered when Old Deuteronomy is kidnapped and the cats must join forces.

It's been a while since critics really can't be taken seriously anymore, it's no surprise that they love to imitate each other. That one then tried to outdo the other with an even lower score or even tougher negative criticism ... well, those people also have to earn their money, but it has little to do with film criticism.
Musicals are not my thing, even with this film it really didn't get any better. And this is really a full-blooded musical, because 75% of the film is introduction of characters through songs. The story is very limited, there is not much drama or progression. You are presented with song after song, and then it ends in the most predictable way.
But still, tribute to Hooper, because the choice to go for a weird mix of human, cat and furry is genius. It is the uncanny valley of uncanny valley. It doesn't look like much, but you can't take your eyes off it. And Hooper goes for it too. Rebel Wilson in heat scratching her thighs, Ian McKellen sipping from a plate of water, Judi Dench trying to sing and Idris Elba doing his thing as a nude-brown furry ... it's nothing less than hilarious and weird.
You wouldn't think they would have dared to do this in a major commercial film, but a little weirdness needs to be knocked down ASAP. Film buffs would rather go back to recognizability and comfort than want to see something crazy.
I have not become a bigger musical lover of this film, but I wish that people dared to produce more films like this, I would like to go to the cinema for that.

Awful movie.
Still a little disappointed. I was hoping for a really crazy bad movie. But that was okay. I've never seen the musical but I think Hooper has remained very faithful to the musical so I can imagine that when the smoke has cleared a bit the fans will be happy.
I heard stories about ridiculous editing and really weird effects. But that was all disgusting. Yes the cats are crazy and when Rebel Wilson dances with cockroaches and mice with children's faces you think wtf? But what sticks with me most is how boring the movie is. Sing over and over again and then 100 times the same text. Jellicle cats they are and that magician is magical mr. Mistoffelees jesus fuck that just kept going. In terms of flow, it's a really bad musical it's one big introduction musical and I don't like cats at all. Everyone knows that dogs are much more fun.
1 star but this is not a Showgirls of the Room rating.

Watched this musical once and thought it was fun. Memories is the highlight, but there are still some catchy songs in it. The cast didn't do too badly. There was very good singing.
Other than that, the movie still looked good.
The extras were also worth checking out. I thought they were wearing furry suits but even they don't, it's all CGI.
