So, there is a lot of loose symbolization, let's say.

Well, if animation is not bad, it also has its moments, and if the pace of the scene changes is picked up towards the end, it is quite enjoyable.

However, the story comes across as a bit made, deliberately poetic; it's a bit of a pull on the emotions, the emphatic seeking of the viewer's feelings of pity, with top-heavy fates. "Kitsch" I think is a word for all of that. And a hand looking for its body: that sounds funny, but I don't really like it. Certainly not as a character.

My quirk perhaps; I couldn't stand Amelie either.

Very refreshing animation film that reminded me nostalgically of The Adams family. The spidery hand is fabulous to follow in his adventures and search for the rest of his body. Very nicely drawn and very atmospherically presented, this is also supported by a nice suitable soundtrack. The hand scenes are very beautiful, going from the confrontation with the pigeon and rats to the ice cream, baby room or blind man.

But Naoufel's flashback plot is also fascinating and recognizable. A young man who yearns for recognition and love, but struggles in the big metropolis to make ends meet. There too some beautiful scenes such as the one at the intercom or the one in the studio.

Indeed a gem and nice that he can reach a wider audience via Netflix. Now it remains to be hoped that he will continue to be appreciated, because this animation film deserves that!

The missed opportunities of an uprooted person. 'J'ai Perdu Mon Corps' (2019) is a sympathetic gem about heavy themes such as detachment, mourning and migration. Moroccan-French Nafouel (Hakim Faris) has to come to terms with the fact that his life has not followed the path he once hoped for. He lost both his parents in a fatal car accident and he started his life in France with a backlog because he had to adapt to the new situation. Out of self-protection, Nafouel leads a safe existence in which he delivers pizzas or philosophizes about the monotony of everyday life. The Morocco of his youth is still a vague memory of unfulfilled promises about social success. But then a miracle happens when Nafouel gets stuck on the intercom with a disgruntled customer during his work. First friction and miscommunication between the delivery driver and the voice of Gabrielle (Victoire du Bois), but then a spark jumps. Nafouel has to risk something for life and for love.

The biggest eye-catcher of 'J'ai Perdu Mon Corps' (2019) is of course the surrealistic symbolism. The Frankenstein motif around an amputated hand and its escape from a laboratory. Hallucinatory emotional cinema with beautiful images of a monstrous hand in the urban environment of Paris. A dangerous journey into hell where the (for us) everyday suddenly becomes a place of both threat and alienation. From rats, pigeons, passers-by and other sudden obstacles. In the same way as the timid Nafouel has to face his lost dreams and fears for that much-needed step forward. This imaginative setup means that 'J'ai Perdu Mon Corps' (2019) covers a range of emotions with the wordless epic around the monster hand and the quiet budding of a love. It's one of those films where you come to love that preserved Nafouel and his search for his own identity.
