Jordan Peele's horror classic Get Out (2017) put an end to the doubts that still existed until that moment about the interest in films by and about black characters and the associated perspective. Burgin gathered a large number of black filmmakers, actors and scholars to talk about the experiences with horror films in the period leading up to Get Out. Starts with The Birth Of A Nation and continues through each decade through film pioneers Oscar Michauex and Spencer Williams. The Night Of The Living Dead, Blacula, Tanja & Hess and Candyman are among the films featured . Instead of talking heads, we see actors and filmmakers in a cinema talking to each other about their experiences. This keeps the conversations lively, both visually and substantively, without sacrificing depth or nuance. An interesting, relevant and entertaining look back at a previously underexposed chapter in film history.
