An entertaining mess, this smooth repetition exercise by director Luc Besson, who gives his earlier action film La Femme Nikita a modern twist here. The script is cleverly put together and there are some top-notch action scenes, but the film is just a bit too far-fetched and exaggerated in tone to really impress. Leading actress Sasha Luss also does not convince everywhere. A real euro pudding.

Besson recycles himself.

He's just making a new Nikita. Now that film wasn't a masterpiece, 30 years later it still isn't. It is a spy thriller that ultimately adds too little to the genre and ticks all the boxes too well.

Here and there a nice action scene to make it more fun, but there are actually remarkably few. Besson seems to be more concerned with the structure of the film, but unfortunately it is mainly very transparent and artificial, so that the plot starts to work against it.

Visually neat but nothing special, the film also lasts just a bit too long and the acting is also only the bare necessities. It is still a decent film, but I still expect a little more from Besson. Unfortunately, that was never the case here, but whoever craves a remake of the old Nikita will find something to his liking here.

3.0*
