Héraðið plot

Beautiful, simple and fascinating story about resistance against abuse of power and corruption.
The star of this rural drama is the protagonist Arndís Hrönn Egilsdóttir who really impresses as the lively, but tormented and tormented woman - she still loses her husband due to the wrongful actions of the co-operative - who vigorously rages against the arbitrariness under whom the whole community suffers.
The downside in the film is perhaps the ending, although... It is surprising because where you expect a solid end to the story, the willpower and optimism, despite everything, of the woman, are only underlined once again.
Only saw a dozen Icelandic productions to date and actually there is hardly a weak one.

The drama concerns the abuse of power by cooperatives and the tension between the closed economy of the local community vs. the open economy of globalization and the free market. That is not uninteresting and the film also manages to add some tension as a drama. But in the end the film seems little more than a vehicle to put the political issue on the map, so that the film as a drama does not deliver enough and in any case has an anticlimax instead of a denouement as the end.

It may be an Icelandic film, but the same problem can be found all over Europe. It's nice that films like this are actually made: you don't make them to attract a massive audience, but to draw attention to a subject that we don't dwell on every day. It is not easy for farmers at the moment and the slightest setback (debt, death) can cause them to go under.
The film is a good middle ground between drama and thriller and never gets boring.
