One of the worst of the season. In fact, it has already been superseded by the reality that inspired it, because these types of war robots already exist, although they are (perhaps?) still experimental. When the lady climbed the tree and the robot went into standby mode, I thought it was going to push itself off the ground to jump up, because that's what real war robots can do. Small 2.5*

By far the best of the series.
Finally one that makes some visual effort. The camera work and editing may not be perfect, but the black and white is used wonderfully, which immediately gives such a film a lot more atmosphere. That's what this Metalhead must have.
It is also a shame that the ending is a bit broken, and you also notice that the budget was really limited. Between the beginning and the final battle there are some pointless scenes that are pure filler. I don't think it would be necessary if you only have to shoot 40 minutes of material.
The robots are also pretty cool. A bit too cute perhaps, also strongly reminiscent of the Boston Dynamics stuff, but at least they come across as threatening enough. Fortunately, there is little moral in this film, at least it is not pushed so hard.
Still not big, it's all far too loose for that, but at least it's something different.

I still haven't seen 'Mad Max: Fury Road Black & Chrome' (2016), but this 'Metalhead' (2017) also looks very tasty in black and white. This episode has an atmosphere of grimy eighties pulp, with exploding heads and funny designed battle robots. Not with a bold ironic wink, but fiercely realistic, raw and a bit unpolished. In terms of theme, it is yet another alarmist episode in which AI technology is scary and dangerous, because these robots can think for themselves and shoot trackers. (And I would still like one as a pet!) But 'Metalhead' (2017) builds up to a final scene that may not have a huge surprise in store, but does effectively make tangible how the position of man becomes humble if technology ever becomes the gains the upper hand.
