"The Making of a Serial Killer"
Reporter Hannes Råstam is committed to proving Thomas Quick's innocence and unmasking the legal chaos that condemns him to life in a psychiatric prison. However, no one is interested in releasing Sweden's worst serial killer; a cannibalistic rapist who is convicted of eight murders and confesses another twenty-five. Based on a true story.

A bit chaotic in its build-up with those short flashbacks, this film is based on a real event of a crime case being reopened.
Mikael Håfström does not deliver a top film ("Derailed" and "Escape Plan" were not either), so the whole thing fell somewhat short of expectations.
And as for the content itself: Are we dealing with a miscarriage of justice here, if the judge is presented with incorrect and coerced information?
The phenomenon of the will and compulsion among detectives to complete a case certainly played a role here.

Fascinating Swedish film about the true legal chaos surrounding alleged serial killer Thomas Quick (David Dencik), who is convicted of eight murders in the early 1990s and confesses to another twenty-five. While reporter Hannes Råstam (Jonas Karlsson) slowly but surely refutes the lack of evidence, his own life begins to fall apart. Atmospherically filmed by director Mikael Håfström and excellently acted, although the plot is more interesting than exciting.

The source material is incredibly bizarre and lends itself perfectly to a feature film, but director Mikael Håfström then presents it far too flatly and with significantly little tension. The first half hour also tends to involve humor in an environment that does not really benefit from it. On the other hand, the humor suddenly disappears completely after those 30 minutes and makes way for drama, but this too is not very convincing. Positive is the well-distributed content and the solid acting, but Quick remains very dry film material that provides little emotion for the viewer. The atmosphere in particular could have been considerably strengthened, which is why Håfström does not manage to get a grip on your attention. Then a running time of 132 minutes unfortunately becomes noticeable in a negative sense.
