My expectations were low, given the unenthusiastic reviews, but it was not too bad. I actually think it's a beautiful film: beautiful images, always fascinating conversations and a realistic and interesting story. I had expected it to be (again) about the oppression of women in the Turkish countryside, but in my opinion it is more about three 'ungrateful' sisters who were given the chance to escape the poverty of the countryside but failed to do so. The biggest victim in the film is a man. All in all, the film impresses with its depiction of the traditional Turkish countryside where there are no jobs left, every young person wants to go to the city and both men and women are humiliated by their powerlessness and try to uphold both their hopes and their honour.

Overall, little shocking happens in this Turkish family drama set in a remote mountain village, where time seems to stand still and the prospects are very bleak. Despite (or perhaps because of) the simple story, it is a beautiful film about the mutual relationships of the family members. The actors come across as very natural. The cinematography of the beautiful surroundings does the rest. More than worth it.

Rural drama about a widower and his three daughters in a remote village. The man sent his daughters to the city as maids with the prospect of a better life, but for reasons that are gradually told in the film, they ended up back in their native village. And life there is not pleasant: it is hard and monotonous work, there are robbers in the area and due to the isolated location, health care is barely accessible. Now and then you also see the village madman making somersaults. You always have such a figure in these kinds of villages. The atmosphere of this family drama gets more and more stuffy and towards the end, despite the beautiful pictures of the wild natural location, you really don't feel like spending your life there. It is all set up very soberly, but the dialogues did not bore me and give an insight into the "hardships" that these rural people have to deal with. Beautifully filmed and well acted, but if you're not used to this kind of film, it may take a while to keep going.
